Well, I know you are pretty much aware about the heading of this blog, Nam Chai Restaurant Bak Kut Teh in Sandakan. So what is the big idea with that title about food thingy? Actually I'm in Sandakan at the moment attending some business matter.

I seldom get up of my bed that early but what to do there is some job to do here in Sandakan. The 45 minutes flight from Kota Kinabalu International Airport Terminal 2 was good. Weather in Kota Kinabalu was fine this morning but raining here in Sandakan this morning. Arrive in Sandakan I jumped inside a cab for Sandakan Hotel and now here sitting at the lobby enjoying a free internet services in Sandakan Hotel.

One thing I wish to highlight here is about the taxi driver this morning. The apek a Chines guy aged around 40 above is an avid nose digger. He was digging his nose right from the airport until Sandakan hotel and I was like 'Oh wow, driving and digging his nose at the same time" Hahaha but seriously, it was disgusting sight.

So come to the topic for today. Tonight I'm thinking about visiting this well-known Nam Chai Restaurant Bak Kut Teh in Sandakan. I just want see why this restaurant is very famous in Sandakan. According to the right up in Sabah Tourism website this Nam Chai Restaurant Bak Kut Teh is Sandakan landmark get louds and roucous especially on weekends when locals and out-of-towners congregate for signature bak kut teh. The bare bones kopitiam setting and no-nonsense waiters barking out ceaseless orders is all part of the old fashion local charm.

The devout owner-chef starts his daily routine at the market-before first light-scouting for top-notch cuts of pork and fresh seafood. He proceeds to the restaurant to patiently concoct two types of meat bone tea-pork and vegetarian-which requires an hour and a half of simmering.

And as soon as the shutters are open, the restaurant is packed with diners hungry for a steaming bowl of perfection. The most popular items on offer are sliced fish, prawns, pork ribs and pork balls. Tofu and vegetables such as spinach, cabbage and mustard greens are also available. Patron can opt for a side of rice, noodles or yew char kueh (Chinese crullers).

Any array of condiments such as diced raw garlic, sliced chillies and soy sauce are provided to add zest, but some diners prefer their bak kut teh just the way it is. The addictive blend of herbs and spices combined with sweet and tender meat is enough to keep anyone coming back for more.

With food this genuinely good, it is no surprise that the restaurant has been operating successfully for the past 21 years!

Ok, so from the descriptions above one can tells that the Nam Chai Restaurant Bak Kut Teh in Sandakan is awesome. However I got to take a look at it myself. :0)
