Movie 'Nasi Lemak 2.0' in Melbourne

Almost 450 people forked out RM64 each for 'Nasi Lemak 2.0' in Melbourne.

Yes, new local independent film Nasi Lemak 2.0 enjoyed a special screening in Melbourne on Merdeka Day.

The screening was attended by the Malaysian community in Melbourne and some of the movie’s cast - Namewee,Adibah Noor,Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 Nadine Ann Thomas,musician and actor Dennis Lau and Malaysian Playboy Bunny Felixia Yeap.

The comedy that “embraces and celebrates what makes us Malaysian,” was screened at Hoyts Cinema.

Adibah Noor said, “This movie is something that I am proud to be part of. It is really a recipe for the Malaysia that our beloved Prime Minister is working towards in 1Malaysia."

Nadine Ann Thomas concurred, “In laughter, we celebrate what makes us all different, but at the same time the film points out that we complete each other.”

“I am proud that Malaysia’s diversity is celebrated in Nasi Lemak 2.0. I’m proud to be part of such a celebration of what makes us all love Malaysia all the more, and especially on Merdeka day,” she added.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 is a film by first-time filmmaker Namewee (whose real name is Wee Meng Chee) and was shot for a budget of under RM1mil.

The movie is in predominantly in Mandarin and Cantonese, with smatterings of Chinese dialects Bahasa Malaysia, English and Tamil.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 co-producer Fred Chong said Melbourne was chosen because of its multicultural melting pot backdrop, which is similar to Malaysia.

The Melbourne screening was the movie's second screening. It was presented by Prodigee Media Sdn Bhd in association with UB Prodigee Entertainment.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 was first screened on Aug 29 at Cineleisure @e-Curve in Damansara and will be shown nationwide on Sept 8.
